Description:
The ultimate "Robinson Crusoe" hideaway, an 'islanders' island", are appropriate descriptions of Young Island. One of the first whole island resorts, Young Island is located just 200 yards off the south coast of St. Vincent in the southern Caribbean. This tiny island is fully self-contained with wonderful, private villa resort accommodations, exquisite meals, fantastic service, water sports, views that are hard to match, and the most elegant yet relaxed and casual atmosphere found anywhere.
The two dozen wood-frame villas are scattered over the island, some on the beach, some on the steep hillside, some by the natural, foliage-fringed pool, all with louvered windows, ceiling fans, open-air showers, colorful tropical prints, and private patios. Fresh flowers and fruit in your villa each day are part of the special service. The very welcome "Welcome" cocktail, "Island Special" complete with flower garnish, is handed to you coming ashore off the replica "African Queen" ferry from your 5 minute ride across Young Island Cut from the St. Vincent shore. The staff on Young Island, many of whom have been with the resort since its opening, are invisibly efficient in their
painstaking care of guests.
Sail, play tennis, snooze in a hammock, swim, snorkel, or scuba dive to fill up your lazy days. A sail-away option is available at Young Island, spending 2 or 3 days sailing the coastline of St. Vincent and some of the Grenadines. Do it, it will be the most memorable vacation ever. Spend some time touring the beautiful island of St. Vincent. Take an all-day dive trip with Dive St.
Vincent up to the Falls of Baleine at the north end. Good diving and snorkeling along the way, and a refreshing dip in the pool at the base of the tumbling falls makes this a wonderful trip. The main city, Kingstown is a clean, friendly city bustling with the daily activities of the seaport, fish market, downtown produce market, and a good variety of shops.
The atmosphere in the dining areas, whether nestled by the beach or amidst the foliage near the beachside bar is informal. No jacket, tie, or shoes required. Meals prepared in traditional West Indian style are splendid. Special events include steel band entertainment, barbecues, and buffets like you have never seen.
